Studio Brief 3: 'Persons of note' - Critical Incident

Claire Skully

On the hunt for ideas on what media to use for my final artwork, I was reminded of Claire Skully's incredible line work whilst flicking through instragram. I have always been drawn to her work as it amazes me how much detail she can achieve in one image.

Her method for creating this artwork involves roughing up ideas on a large scale in pencil, and then inking up perfect lines using rotring pens. Once the image is completely inked, she then scan it in and fills each tiny detail in using photoshop. The results are mind blowing and I would really like to have a go at this - maybe for my final poster. I have a lot of elements to incorporate when wanting to represent Bruce's life and like the idea of telling a story/scene within an image.

Taking this into consideration, I splashed out for my birthday and bought some lovely new rotring pens. I have always always been a fan of these mapping pens, ever since my dad let me keep one of his from when he used to be a draftsman however I have only ever had a few random sizes so I thought it was time to add to my collection. The metal needle-like tip means no bending of the nib and a continuous same sized line - perfect for inking up. I cant wait to use them!
