Studio Brief 3: 'Persons of note' - Final Artwork and Self Evaluation

Digital printing

I always look forwarded to printing my design as it turns something once very digital into something physical. I originally wanted my postcard design and poster to be printed on gloss. The poster came out perfect and the colours really popped, however the postcards has printer lines on them and some of the detail lost its quality. i decided to print the postcards again, this time on matt heavyweight paper, as well as my stamps. The colours didn't come out as vivid, however I quite like the dappled affect that the paper gives the artwork.

Self Evaluation

I wish I had had more time to dedicate to this brief. I really loved the topic and found every stage really interesting. Research really helped me to understand who Bruce was and what he was all about, strengthening my ideas for artwork and helping them have multiple layers of meaning. I feel like some aspects I invested a lot of time and effort into, whereas others I wasn't able to get around too doing so. If i could have the chance to do this again, I would definitely create postcards in keeping with my original "Jeet Kune Do" movement studies. I really feel this would have done Bruce Lee some justice and I would have liked to have a go at drawing martial arts movements.

Despite my failures, I am really happy with how I have managed to still complete this brief. I have met the requirements and produced 3 postcards (which at one point `i didn't think possible) and I think they showcase each element of the dragon and scenes from Bruce's life well.

The main success of this brief, I feel, is my dragon poster. I think this works well as a portrayal of Bruce and his life and it has been created in in a new style for me - which I like. I have tried new media techniques and approaches to design work which have really helped inform my concepts and final artwork. I will definitely be exploring pen and ink, as well as digital colouring in my work in the future.
