I came across Scott whilst on the hunt for illustrations that explore shape. I was struggling with the idea of 'drawing with shape' and wanted to see different examples and processes illustrators use in their work so that I can try out a few techniques for myself for our latest Visual Language task. Scott is most well known for his Lucha Libre mask series, but I also find his animal pieces really interesting and vibrant.
I am really inspired by Scotts work and how shape and colour are used in an exciting way to communicate an idea. Most of his work is digital, and although I am not sure I want to use digital methods for this task, I am mainly interested in the bold use of shape and how even though predominantly just shape is used, Scott still manages to create detailed pieces full of depth and character.

For this task I am going to experiment with as many shapes as possible and see what images I can create related to my chosen theme 'Cowboys & Indians' using just shape and little to no line.
Techniques/media to explore:
Paper cut/fold/collage
Block printing - Potato Printing
Paint - acrylic, guache, watercolour
Ink, marker
Spray paint & stensil
