Studio Brief 2 - A Day in the Life: Final Work, Feedback & 200 Word Evaluation

Final Work

Peer Feedback

Evaluation

I really enjoyed this editorial brief once I had my ideas pinned down and although some may feel it is in my comfort zone to use paper cut methods, I really pushed myself with this and learnt a lot of new techniques throughout the process. I was really surprised at the feedback I received and how positive it was. I guess working so hard on something, your mind kind of gets sick of seeing it towards the end and I honestly thought everyone would think that the concept was too obvious and child-like.

Taking this feedback on board, I do feel that the facial expressions needed more variation and that I could have spaced things out a little more as the images are a little busy. I am really interested in developing my character design skills and for a first shot at it, the children in my images didn't turn out so bad.

Although my approach and the images I have created here are very different to the previous brief, I think it is now time to try other methods of image making along with other media as I have done a lot of paper cutting/engineering and I am in fear of my index finger falling off. There are so many areas in which I can use these briefs to become more confident and develop my skills so I really need to make the most of these opportunities.

Overall I think I hit the brief (despite discrepancies about the amount of colours used) and managed to clearly convey the message in the article that I chose. I am excited to continue to develop my paper cutting skills as this is obviously an area I am inspired by, but also to try new things along with applying colour theory and explore how successful colour choices help tie together message and composition.
