My initial intentions for this brief were to try something completely new. I have done a lot of paper engineering in the last two briefs, and while that worked well for me and I created some pieces that I am really proud of, I thought it was time to try something new and outside of my comfort zone. Although I wasn't happy with the results, I am glad I made the scary steps to try something different and feel I have learnt a lot about new types of media, new methods of using media and how different mixed medias work together.
Type has never really been an issue for me, mainly because I have had an interest in Typography for so long now and spent time researching, designing and using it in a lot of my own personal practice. Despite this, I don't feel I really pushed the type aspect in these pieces and I would have liked to spend more time developing work that really focuses on the type and its design/impact which I think is what this brief was about.
I really like been given advice on how to make an image better as I get lost in the work I produce sometimes so other ideas and viewpoints are really beneficial to me. If I could re-do this brief I would definitely take on board the feedback about the type aspects being unclear and focus on the design more, for example add 3D elements to the words "Flies" on my text & image piece to help the word stand out more.
It has been really great to see people liking, engaging and responding to what I have come up with and this motivates me to carry on trying new methods and develop new skills.
Final notes to self:
- Use time wisely & efficiently
- Accept your mistakes
- In the pursuit of perfection - KNOW WHEN TO STOP!
