This amazing paper-cut work by Clary, takes multi-layered pattern making as well as object and environment to the next level. the intricacy of these forms reminds me of nature and natural organisms, such as bio-structures on a microscopic level. similar to coral and other oceanic life.
The 3 dimensional forms almost have a life of their own - jutting out into the space around them, creating an immersive experience for the audience - one almost familiar. The dedication to craft within Clary's work is mind blowing and automatically draws the audience in, questioning what these strange/surreal yet calming structures are. The journey of creation seems to be key here, giving life to the artwork and resonating/conveying the messages within on a much stronger, more impactive level. I am desperate to have a go - if my patience will let me!
Quote from artist:
"I use paper to create a world of fiction that challenges the viewer to suspend disbelief and venture into my fabricated reality. By layering paper I am able to build intriguing land formations that mimic viral colonies and concentric sound waves. These strange landmasses contaminate and infect the surfaces they inhabit transforming the space into something suitable for their gestation. Towers of paper and color jut into the viewer’s space inviting playful interactions between the viewer and this conceived world. These constructions question the notion of microbial outbreaks and their similarity to the visual representation of sound waves, transforming them into something more playful and inviting."
