"Coralise" 3D Sticker Bombs: On Location

After creating my larger clay "sticker bomb" pieces - it was time to take them out and place them within their context - the urban environment.

The concept behind these pieces is to draw attention to the 3d models of the corals I have made, get people asking questions and spread awareness of the destruction and degradation caused by us human beings. - In particular - coral bleaching and blast mining.

Coral bleaching being one of the most awful issues in our oceans caused by the acid leaking into oceanic habitats by pollution and warming waters. The nutrients being drained out of these beautiful organisms at a faster and faster rate as time goes on and nothing is being done about it. The coral is technically rotting away, becoming a skeleton of itself and a dead coral cannot provide food, life or shelter for other animals within our oceans or provide the waters and plant life with the rich nutrients it needs. This is shown by the absolute whiteness of my 3d stickers. The forms may be beautiful - however they lack the colour that people are used to seeing when they see the picturesque "idillic" coral reefs they once were in pictures/media. The whiteness puts the truth out there.

Blast mining / fishing - despite being the most disgusting resolution to providing massive and unnecessary hauls of dead fish for our dinner plates at any one time - this method is also used to produce a lot of the core "sand" / "shards" of material used in bricks to construct our homes and city buildings - therefore I thought this was an appropriate location to place these 3d "stickers" in an urban environment - as if growing out from the fragmented pieces within the bricks of leeds buildings.

"The destruction of a habitat to make a habitat"
- I want this to be my main impact / message within these "objects" within environment.
